I’d like to thank Dustin Dempsey for creating this blog for us. He’s done an outstanding job. I’d also like to thank my friend Mark Madsen for his advice and encouragement.
My name is Mark Green, and I’m committed to making 2009 a fun, profitable year. This blog will either be one of two things:
1) One of the mortgage industry’s best resources for CRM and sales strategies
2) A colossal waste of time
Only one way to find out… stay tuned.

As the first post on our brand new Top of Mind Networks Blog, I wanted to do a quick “pros and cons” comparison of common closing gifts out there on the market; and of course show how our featured Closing Gift, “The Address Stamper” stacks up with the other gift ideas. We have surveyed hundreds of Real Estate and Mortgage professionals and the three most common closing gifts people tend to give are a gift basket, a gift card, or nothing at all.

The Gift Basket
Pros:
-clients love them
-it can give them something to eat and/or drink as they unpack and get settled in to their new home
Cons:
-typically very expensive
-very low shelf life, your client consumes them and will likely forget you every gave it to them

The Gift Card
Pros:
-depending on the value of the card they can be cheaper than gift baskets
-everyone loves a gift card because they can get whatever they want with it (at that store of course)
Cons:
-can be perceived as very impersonal
-again, this gift will be used and then forgotten about

Nothing
Pros:
-you cannot beat the price tag
Cons:
-does nothing to deepen the relationship between you and your client

Address Stamper
Pros:
-highly personalized, contains their name and address
-has a very high shelf life, this will likely sit on your client’s desk for as long as they own their home
-inexpensive; as of 12/9/08 the price tag is $10, you won’t find any gift baskets that cheap, and if you give a gift card for an amount less than that it likely won’t go over very well
-this gift is actually usable, your client will probably use it once a month every time they pay their bills
Cons:
-none that come to mind
